HISPANIC MENTAL HEALTH

At Center Focused Therapy we are committed to providing culturally responsive therapy that affirms and reflects the unique experiences of Hispanic and Latiné individuals. We believe connecting with someone committed to understanding and supporting your culture contributes to a better experience in therapy.

Our Hispanic-identifying clinicians understand that identity is a crucial part of how we navigate the world, and how the world sees us. We strive to meet clients with curiosity, care and cultural humility.

Culturally responsive therapy matters because:

  • Hispanic/ Latino (immigrants and U.S-born) are at increased vulnerability to psychological stress from immigration and acculturation.

  • Some clinicians might overlook the impact of collectivism and factors like “Familismo”.

  • Hispanics are less likely to have access to care, and often report poor communication with healthcare providers.

  • Hispanic clients often have to navigate cultural stigma when seeking mental health support.

  • Healing is more effective when therapists understand the influence of cultural values, generational roles, and unspoken norms

  • Feeling seen and understood in therapy creates space for more honest, transformative work
